Welcome to Malton Vineyard

Located on the outskirts of Malton, in the Howardian Hills sits the picturesque hillside of Musley Bank, the setting for the unique three acre Malton Vineyard.

About Us

This hillside vineyard, owned and run by Viv & Phill Clarkson, has panoramic views overlooking the stunning Yorkshire countryside and is ideally situated on a south facing slope to make the best of our warm summer sun. Viv & Phill began their wine making adventure in 2020 when they laid out the vineyard trellis system and then single handed planted the 2200 vines.

The vines are predominantly the Solaris variety and well known for their tolerance of cooler climates and early ripening qualities so are ideal for this vineyard.Viv and Phill have a simple ethos; they are passionate about what they do and so aim to produce a quality wine worthy of the time and energy they invest in the vineyard. Phil says “The ‘Terroir of the vineyard is the mysterious ingredient that makes our wine different to that produced by others. It can be measured by the makeup of the soil in which it grows, the amount of sunlight available and equally, the amount of care devoted to the vine”.

Our 2024 Harvest

The 2024 harvest is now on sale. A crisp white wine, which has a nose of lemony citrus. These aromas follow through the palate, where there is an abundance of green apple flavours that are balanced with lovely fresh acidity and a long finish. It is a dry wine and is called ‘Musley Bank’ as reference to its provenance. To ensure consistency and quality of the wine, Viv & Phill have established their own winery. This hands-on approach is important to them and has the benefit of access to the wine in its various stages of maturation to check quality by tasting!

Cider Production

In addition to wine production, Cider is produced using locally sourced apples. This bottle conditioned cider has been crafted using time honoured techniques and is available in either sparkling or still versions. The Cider is called ‘Old Grumpy’ & ‘Still Grumpy’, inspired by reference to the brewer himself who has been known to see the less favourable side of life on occasion!
